WILD WEST
LIVES
Young, Arizona is located in the heart of Pleasant Valley in Gila County, about 120 miles northeast of Phoenix. It is truly one of Arizona's best-kept secrets. Untouched and unspoiled. It gives visitors a real-life example of the true wild, wild west.
In Young you will take a step back in time. Electricity didn't arrive until 1965 and there was no cellular service until 2009. Even today, there are no fast food restaurants or well-known chain stores. Progress in Pleasant Valley moves very slowly.
Even though it is small it has some great dining options and fun. Grab a gourmet pizza, say hi to the lamas and get a glass of wine from Bruzzi Vineyards. Don't forget the communities big annual event, the Pleasant Valley Days usually held the 3rd weekend of July.
Pleasant Valley which surrounds Young is best known for the Family feud that erupted into a full-fledged range war during the years from 1882-1887. The conflict involved two feuding families, the Grahams and Tewksburys. It turned out some say to be the bloodiest feud in America History.
The road to Young can be a little tricky because it is paved for only part of the way. When it is raining or snowing it is advised that you have a higher profile vehicle with 4-Wheel-Drive.
