Where the Stage
Stopped
In 1916, the corner was a stage stop on the Annie Hardt ranch. Whenever the Salt River flooded, stagecoaches would stop and wait for the waters to recede on their journey from Globe to Payson.
Annie would put out fruits and vegetables and passersby would leave money in a collection box.
In 1924, George Felton built the first store at the corner. His wife Virginia managed the shop while he traveled the world, performing in Wild West shows with his friend Charlie Meadows.
By 1972, the road outside the store was paved and more traffic was soon flowing past as anglers headed to Roosevelt Lake.
In 2008, the movie “Jake’s Corner” was filmed at the bar. It featured several locals and was shown at the Sedona Film Festival.
If you are heading to Roosevelt Lake on Highway 188 this is a great stop to get a drink and tell your "Fishing Tales" form your days adventure.
